In this monthly gathering of hypnotherapy professionals we have an opportunity to connect at a deeper level with Source, The All that is, God/Goddess… However, it is just as meaningful to connect with one another, to support one another as a community. As our souls connect we elevate one another.

As therapists, hypnotherapists, friends and family members, we often want to share something meaningful with someone who’s struggling, don’t we? I’ve learned that people seldom appreciate advice, even when they’ve asked you for it. When I make the mistake of giving advice I often hear, “yes, but…” followed by a reason why that won’t work for them. And, even though I never considered myself a storyteller, when struggling to make my point I will always resort to telling intuitive stories.
Here’s a way that we can be helpful and be heard.
When we want to understand something we can ask either,“How do I solve this?” Or we can ask, “What’s the story?”
There’s quite a difference between giving advice and hearing a story. Advice, which is presented as an explanation, will analyze, dissect, show principles, rules or laws.
But a story touches us. We are moved and excited by a story. We can stand back and examine advice. We participate in a story and learn from our vicarious experience…
Many of us do this work without community, without support from others in the field. We help others process their emotions and while we benefit by facilitating their sessions it isn’t as effective as being the subject. Have you ever wished you could experience a process yourself that you use with your clients? After all, the work really is best learned from the inside out.

Instructor: Katherine Zimmerman is an internationally-known author and speaker, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, Reiki Master, and EFT Practitioner with a private practice. Since 1989, she has taught classes on self-hypnosis, EFT, and other related subjects, along with doing presentations on hypnotherapy at professional conferences nationwide.
